Mother’s Day Buddha Board

Every time I visit the Columbus Museum of Art, I find time to go into the gift shop and play with the Buddha Board they have on display. I was delighted to receive one of my own on Mother’s Day!

The Buddha Board is a cloth-covered board with a water container and brush. Dip the brush into the water and paint on the board. “As the water evaporates,” the included description explains, “your image will fade, but will reveal a new perspective on your creative endeavors, encouraging the Zen idea of living in the moment.” It’s addictive. You can create image after image without ever squeezing a paint tube or cleaning a brush.

I find it’s perfect for practicing a loose, spontaneous painting style, because it’s impossible to fuss over details when your painting is already beginning to disappear! You’ll want to keep the Buddha Board and its matching water container and brush nearby. The beautiful, simple design is sculptural and attractive, so it looks decorative on a table top or kitchen counter, ready for you to take brush in hand and try out a few strokes whenever inspiration strikes. It would also make a wonderful gift for a creative person in your life.
